The Ancient Gatehouse Hotel is located on the green opposite the West Front of Wells Cathedral. This hotel exudes an old, intriguing atmosphere with its centuries-old spiral stone staircase and quaint little passages.
Just yards away from the ancient market place and Wells Bishop’s Palace, the hotel is well positioned for discovering Somerset’s history and beauty spots. The hotel’s history can be traced back to the feudal barons, and still preserved with the cathedral records are details of its rebuilding in 1473. The Great West Gate which forms part of the property (now called Browne's Gate) is designated an ancient monument.
