Wells Cathedral School, Wells
Cedars Hall is a state-of-the-art performance, teaching and learning centre built within the ancient footprint of Wells Cathedral School. Designed by award-winning architect Eric Parry,
Cedars Hall provides Wells with a 350-seat recital auditorium, rehearsal rooms, observation and teaching suites and a cutting-edge recording studio. It also has an open entrance foyer and dedicated hospitality bar area.
Creating a building in Wells which delivers the appropriate high acoustic standards required in such a prestigious historical setting has in itself presented a unique challenge. But rather than follow traditional architectural form, it was felt Cedars Hall should look ahead in its design, materials and concept. The result is a modern complex of glass and weathered corten steel but within ‘classical’ dimensions. Autumn 2016 sees the inaugural series of performances at Cedars Hall - please see the events listing for more details.
